Notes for Turkey

One entry, and I am not going to pad the country out to look better stocked than it is. What is here is a pair of timber houses on the upper Bosphorus, and they are worth the whole of a day that could have been spent on the famous things in the old city.

Take the ferry. There is a road, and the road will be a slow, joyless hour in traffic; the boat is the correct approach and the shoreline is half the reason to go. Check the timetable for the return before you set out, because the evening service thins.

There is more of this country I have not seen — provincial houses, private foundations, an entire Aegean coast of them — and none of it belongs in the directory until I have stood in it. Consider Turkey a page that is meant to grow.
