Melbourne

One entry, and it is out of town, up a river, behind a vegetable garden. Exactly the right sort of trouble.

September, out of the centre, and no second stop. One house is the whole day here.

The entries

One entry, stood in, and no padding around it.
An empty whitewashed farmhouse room with a plain timber table and paintings hung low
Interior · the table, and what was argued across it

A modest farmhouse, a kitchen garden, and a great deal of Australian trouble. The rooms are small enough that the trouble still feels close.

SEPTEMBER, THE RIVER BEND
Notes for the city

This is not a city-centre morning. The entry sits well out along the river, and the going and coming back is a real part of the day — plan it as an excursion rather than an errand, and do not put anything after it.

I went in September, which is their spring, and the garden was the argument. Anyone who treats the vegetable beds as scenery on the way to the paintings has the order backwards; the beds are why the rest of it exists.

One entry in this city, and I am not going to invent a second to make the page look busier. When I find another worth keeping it will appear here, and not before.
